Dear DIG Chapters and Members,

The main goal of the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) meeting in Chicago on August 15-17, 2008 is to bring interested individuals together who will put on an event in the coming year or who will participate in a fundraising event, such as a marathon/half marathon (Miles for Melanoma, M4M), with the ultimate goal of raising money for MRF.

At the meeting in Chicago, individuals will brainstorm and give examples of successful events and fundraising techniques. If you feel interested in helping MRF raise funds, such as through Miles for Melanoma or another creative venture, please email Stephen Squires AND Bill Marsch at the emails listed at the bottom of this message.

Those chosen to come will have all expenses covered by MRF. (travel, meals, hotel). Once again, we really want people who attend the meeting to actually put on a fundraising event for MRF, since MRF pays for everyone to go to the meeting.

Almost 90% of the money that is raised from individuals like yourself goes to research, education and advocacy. The other 10% primarily goes to overhead. MRF is a volunteer-run organization, and thus has no paid staff. They are not affiliated with any specific hospital or research institution and thus award grants to the applicants that have the greatest merit.

YOU ARE INVITED TO ATTEND

THE THIRD ANNUAL NATIONAL TRAINING MEETING FOR MELANOMA RESEARCH FOUNDATION VOLUNTEERS

Following the success of our first two Training Meetings in Chicago , the MRF Board has approved funding for our 3rd meeting. It will be held on the weekend of August 15-17 (Friday – Sunday) at the Sheraton Gateway Suites at Chicago ’s O’Hare Airport. Our weekend schedule will include: Reception on Friday evening (6:00 PM), presentations and workshops on Saturday and Sunday morning, along with numerous opportunities to share with other fundraising volunteers and an Awards Dinner.

IMPORTANT: Because of the growth in the number of community events and volunteers, we are inviting two representatives from each event to attend. All expenses will be covered by MRF.

We are looking forward to your participation at our 3rd National Training Meeting.
