Miles For Melanoma Tips from Melanoma.org
About: Miles for Melanoma (MFM) is a charity fundraiser originally organized in 2002 by Steve Farrell, a melanoma survivor. Because of his initial success and the momentum he created for the project, many others have modelled their fundraising efforts after his. The DIG at Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine participated in the Akron Roadrunner Marathon in both 2003 and 2004 to raise money for the Melanoma Research Foundation via MFM. The MFM idea was disseminated to DIGA at the first annual meeting, and consequently many other DIGs will be initiating their own MFM fundraisers. The ultimate goal is to have representatives from around the country run in various marathons and half marathons to raise both awareness for melanoma, and money for the Melanoma Research Foundation. Please encourage your classmates and professors to become involved!
The DIG at Vanderbilt currently has MFM representatives training to participate in the Country Music Marathon in Nashville. For more information on how to organize an event like this at your medical school, please contact Alex.Eshaghian@vanderbilt.edu.
